Hatchet Marlin

Tetrapturus species

The Hatchet Marlin is an extremely rare billfish. The latest possible catch was on the east coast of Florida, but there have been reports of several in the last couple of years from Cuba. Their range may be the same as the Atlantic Marlins.

The Hatchet Marlin may be a variety of the White Marlin. Although the scale shape of the Hatchet Marlin is rounded, unlike other marlin who's scales are pointed. This points out that the Hatchet Marlin could be its own species.

The coloration is very similar to the White Marlin. The size is uncertain, but probably does not exceed 200 pounds. Fishing method would be close to White Marlin methods that includes trolling and some drifting.
